A new law enabling so called "legal highs" to be banned in the Island more quickly has been passed by the Legislative Council.

The Misuse of Drugs Amendment Bill passed the clauses and third reading stages of the process yesterday.

The Department of Health will now be able to make any substance illegal by gaining Tynwald approval through a temporary Order.

This order can remain in force for twelve months, by which time it's hoped the UK will have banned the substance.

Dudley Butt MLC told LegCo that this law is necessary as these drugs don't always hit the cities first.
