Motorists with personalised number plates could soon receive a letter from the Department of Infrastructure telling them to change it.

The Department is cracking down on illegal number plates.

For the plates to be legal they must have a a certain font, the letters must be a specific height and width and contain no symbol other than the Isle of Man three legs emblem.

Infrastructure Minister Phil Gawne says the continued use of illegal number plates could lead to problems for motorists hoping to travel off Island in their vehicles [play clip]
