Inflation falls as unemployment rises

Wed, 11 Aug 2010

Treasury Minister Anne Craine has given a cautious welcome to figures showing that the islands inflation rate has continued to fall in July.

The retail price index (RPI) fell by just under 5 % last month which is similar to the month before.

Mrs Craine has said that this is the second successive month that inflation has fallen,  but it doesn't necessarily mean that we'll see lower rates for the rest of the year.

It has also been announced that unemployment figures have risen slightly to 1.9% and now stand at 822 an increase of 28 in total.
