Black ice warning as roads freeze overnight

Wed, 10 Nov 2010

The Emergency Services are warning of black ice across the Island this morning.

Motorists are urged to drive with caution.

Traffic was diverted away from Mount Rule Road following a two vehicle crash, but the scene was clear again by 10.00

The A3 was closed for a time from Ballig Bridge to the Little London junction, following reports earlier of ice at Glen Helen and Cronk y Voddy, but re-opened shortly after 9.00.

Traffic was also diverted away from Fairy Bridge down Old Castletown Road after a bike slid off the road.

Energy FM listeners have reported patches of ice at White Hoe, Quarry Bends and Ballacraine.

Department of Infrastructure gritters are out across the Island trying to improve the road conditions.

Meanwhile the Mountain Road is set to close later this morning for filming.

The road will be shut from Barrule Park to the Bungalow from 9.30 until 4.30 this afternoon, or until filming is complete.
