The Infrastructure Minister says the Harbours Division will always act in the best interest of the Manx people.

Phil Gawne held meetings with chiefs from the Steam Packet Company and Mezeron over the past fortnight, after Mezeron launched a freight service rivalling that of the Packet.

The Steam Packet has indicated it could have to make job cuts as a result of losing business.

Members of the Nautilus union are due to protest outside Tynwald this morning.

Mr Gawne says his Department is working closely with both operators to ensure a quality service and reasonable prices.
