Union vows to do all it can to save railway jobs

Tue, 15 Feb 2011

The Unite union says it's prepared to do all it can to save the jobs of a group workers from the Island's heritage railways.

22 posts look set to go from the Department of Community, Culture and Leisure.

Worker staged a demonstration outside Tynwald this morning as politicians were arriving to hear this year's budget speech.

Unite says the staff are protesting against government cutbacks and aren't asking for more money or better conditions.

Regional Industrial Organiser Steve Salter believes other ways to save money haven't been properly looked at. [Play audio file below]
