Moves to tighten up parking regulations

Thu, 17 Mar 2011

The Department of Infrastructure is looking to tighten up parking regulations on the Island.

Traffic wardens who're currently employed by the Department of Home Affairs are to be transferred to the DoI, to join the department's Parking Controllers.

The Department of Infrastructure also wants to be able to increase fixed penalty fines to reflect inflation, without having to ask permission from Tynwald.

New legislation which has had its first reading the House of Keys would also prohibit double-parking and parking across dropped kerbs.

Minister Phil Gawne hopes the changes will achieve more efficient enforcement Island-wide. [play audio file below]
