Higher than expected surplus

Wed, 18 May 2011

A higher than forecast surplus was recorded by the Government in the last financial year.

The accounts show the Government made £9.6 million in the year ending March 31st, when just £1.7 million was expected.

The Treasury says the increased figure is down to lower than predicted spending within Departments.

Income over the year was £538 million, compared to expenditure of £528 million.

No funds were transferred to the Government reserves
