3,000 school children will be affected by bus strike

Last minute talks will take place in an attempt to avoid a bus drivers' strike.

Around 100 public transport staff plan to walk out on Tynwald Day next Tuesday and then again on Wednesday.

The row is over terms and conditions.

Representatives of the Department of Community, Culture and Leisure and the union Unite will continue with meetings tomorrow to try to resolves the issues.

Steve Salter from Unite told Granada Reports they've tried to be reasonable, but he admits it will cause problems for bus users.[play media file below]

Meanwhile, the parents of the 3,000 youngsters who take buses to and from school will be among those inconvenienced if Wednesday's strike goes ahead.

The Department of Education says schools will be staying open that day.

Staff say they sympathise with mums and dads over any inconvenience the industrial action will cause.

They say they hope with having been given a week's notice, people will have time to make alternative arrangements for children who travel to school by bus.
