MHK says Minister wants to destroy village entrance

Retiring MHK David Cannan believes the Minister for Education and Children is determined to handover the Michael School Playing Field to Dandara.

The Housing developer has shown an interest in exchanging nearby land for the school field to provide an entrance to a new housing development in the area.

The current Michael MHK has been a critic of the plans, believing the entrance to Kirk Michael would be destroyed.

The Chief Executive of the Department of Education and Children says no deal has yet been done with Dandara.

However, Mr Cannan says Eddie Teare seems determined to destroy the iconic entrance to the village at Douglas Road Corner, and is urging his constituents to make their views known to the Minister.

Mr Cannan isn't seeking re-election, and comes to the end of a 29 year career in the House of Keys on Thursday, when the House is to be dissolved.
