Bay Festival Director asks for refund from Council

Mon, 10 Oct 2011

The Director of the Isle of Man Bay Festival is asking for a refund for hiring Noble's Park from Douglas Council.

The Council's Leisure Services Committee wants to refuse the refund.

It says a significant amount a time, administration and other resources had to be used following the cancellation of the festival to make sure the Elton John concert taking place in the same venue was able to go ahead.

Jonathon Irving made an initial payment to the Council in September last year to secure the site for the three days in June, plus a further payment for the Elton John gig.

However, the Council says the area was still out of use to the public, and that no liability rests with it to refund the charges.

The festival was called off in May due to poor ticket sales, with many customers not receiving a refund for several months after the cancellation.
