Storms cause disruption to Island

Thu, 08 Dec 2011

Winds of up to 75 miles per hour are forecast to hit the Island this afternoon.

The Isle of Man Met Office says some structural damage is likely.

The gales have already led to problems.

For safety reasons, the Mountain Road is closed between the Creg ny Baa and the Ramsey Hairpin until 6pm.

Police say there've been gusts of 80 miles per hour on the Mountain.

Daytime sailings have again been cancelled and further disruptions are possible tonight.

An update is due later.

All of the Island's civic amenity sites have now been closed because of the high winds.

The gales are due to ease overnight.
