A government Minister is saying sorry for a drunken incident at his department's Christmas party.

Home Affairs Minister Juan Watterson says he's mortified and ashamed after being sick on a bus last Friday.

31 year old Mr Watterson says he's upset that he allowed his judgement to lapse so seriously.

He says he's already paid the Department of Community, Culture and Leisure for the work that needs to be done.

He's also apologised to the bus driver, the Chief Executive Officer and Minister of the Department, and to the Chief Minister.

He says he's highly embarrassed by what happened..[play clip]
