Police increase patrols after thefts of fuel and metal

Thu, 22 Dec 2011

Police say they'll be increasing patrols at building sites and other places of work over the Christmas holidays.

They're trying to combat thefts of heating oil, vehicle fuel and metal, which is sold on as scrap.

Gates, cabling and even overhead lines for the Manx Electric Railway have been targeted in the past.

Police have been taking steps to tackle the problem and arrests have been made.

At this time of year some offices, businesses and building sites close down and this can make them more attractive to thieves.
