Questions to be asked over future of HPV vaccines

An MHK is to ask about future plans to introduce another vaccine against HPV.

Douglas South MHK Kate Beecroft will ask Health Minister David Anderson when Gardasil vaccines will be introduced on the Island.

The vaccine protects against HPV, and is found to reduce the chance of some cancers in men, as well as protecting against cervical cancer in women.

Currently the Department of Health offers Cervarix to teenage girls, which is also a vaccine against HPV.

Mrs Beecroft will also ask what plans the Department has to make Gardasil available to teenage boys, and what percentage of girls have been taking up the Cervarix vaccine.
