The Chief Minister says he would like to continue the free preschool provision on the Island, but the Government doesn't have the money to do so.

Allan Bell says the funding would continue in the ideal world, but that at the moment the cash isn't available.

Mr Bell told Tynwald that he is concerned the ongoing debate about preschool cuts is devaluing the service provided by private nurseries.

MLC Dudley Butt, who quit the Department of Education and Children over the cuts, says the Island is now providing a lesser service than Scotland and Wales.

But Mr Bell insists the Manx Government can't afford to continue funding preschools [play clip]
