Mobile phone mast proposals to go before Tynwald

Infrastructure Minister David Cretney will put forward proposals today to radically change the way the Island’s telecommunications companies install phone masts.

The department will move to pass a revised telecoms permitted development order – meaning any mobile masts would have to go through public consultation or rights of appeal.

Up until now Manx Telecom has been granted permitted development rights – and not Sure.

The department says it is an effort to even out the playing field.

Planning director Michael Gallagher said it would make the process more transparent:
