Tesco says it will still open in Castletown but refuses to confirm details

Tue, 24 Jul 2012

Tesco has confirmed to ENERGY FM that it hasn’t pulled out of the Callows Yard complex in Castletown – despite not opening on time.

Tesco first announced it was to open an Express Store in Castletown last year – however since then rumour and speculation around the site has been rife.

Originally the retail giant said the doors would be opening at the start of the year and then in April Tesco’s corporate affairs manager said the store was on course to open in July.

Tesco has since been dogged by a number of problems including failing to obtain an alcohol licence when Castletown Commissioners objected to its plans.

We put a number of questions to Tesco which it refused to answer including whether the supermarket would be resubmitting its application for a licence, when the store was now due to open and if the retailer was looking at other sites.

A spokesperson for Tesco simply stated:"We are continuing to progress our plans and will keep the local community updated".
