A version of Sarah’s Law looks close to being implemented in the Isle of Man according to the Home Affairs Minister.

Juan Watterson was responding to a question in the House of Keys yesterday regarding the child protection law, which would give parents access to information about sex offenders in contact with their children.

The Minister said a number of arrangements have already been updated that manage the risk posed by offenders to the local community.

In respect of a Sarah’s Law-style proposal, Mr Watterson said plans are currently being drawn up but there are numerous issues to consider.

However, he did say a new Sex Offender Bill is being drafted to ensure that offenders have to report to authorities when they travel here.

The Minister concluded by adding his department is working closely with other areas of government to ensure community-based projects and teaching is carried out to promote child safety.
