Students will have to pay for higher education

Fri, 23 Nov 2012

Students will be asked to pay towards their university fees under new proposals going before Tynwald.

The Department of Education and Children wants to see a minimum contribution of £2,500 a year towards higher education.

Students whose parents are considered high earners would be expected to pay substantially more.

The Department of Education and Children says making students pay will help to make savings.

The proposals will go before Tynwald at next month’s sitting and if accepted would come into play from September 2014.

We’ll bring you more on that story later.
