Tuition fee vote postponed until January

Controversial plans to introduce tuition fees for Island students will not be going before Tynwald as planned.

Politicians were due to vote on the Department of Education and Children’s proposals next week.

If they were accepted students would have to pay at least £2,500 per year towards their university fees.

However a number of MHKs have voiced concerns saying they haven’t had enough time to consider the proposed regulations.

Director of Education Martin Barrow says the department is responding to that by postponing the debate until January:
