MHK calls for major re-think over bus station site

An MHK is calling for a major re-think of how to utilise the Lord Street site, which was originally earmarked for a hotel development.

It was confirmed at the end of last week that the plug had been pulled on the £70 million hotel complex that would have filled the space left dormant since the former bus station was demolished in 2002.

Developers Askett Hawk had proposed a 120 bedroom four star hotel, with 24 retail and leisure units on Lord Street, together with 150 car parking spaces.

Middle MHK Howard Quayle has been highly critical of the proposed development and says the next logical move would be to use the space for a new bus station:
