'Point to prove' getting Manx meat on Tesco shelves

Isle of Man Meats say it had a “point to prove” in getting local meat back into Tesco – despite now pulling the supply.

Yesterday the company announced it was unsustainable to service the supermarket because the cost of being an approved supplier outweighed the 200 kilos of meat which Tesco bought each week.

Manx meat had only returned to the shelves six weeks ago following an 11 month absence after an unsatisfactory audit of the meat plant.

However chief executive of Isle of Man Meats, John Dawkins, says fighting to get the produce restocked was not a waste of time:
