Frontline staff could face axe

Frontline emergency services staff could be axed as the Department of Home Affairs looks to make savings of £2 million.

Currently three quarters of the department’s budget is spent on staffing – something that is subject to change in the battle to balance the books.

Other proposals to save money include the development of an on-Island training facility for firefighters and a new custody block at Police Headquarters which would free up Lord Street.

Home Affairs Minister Juan Watterson says there are difficult decisions ahead:
