Bus drivers vote against new offer

Wed, 22 May 2013  15:16

Bus drivers have rejected another offer from their bosses, meaning strike action looks inevitable.

It had been hoped that the walkout could be called off at the last minute when another deal was put on the table this week.

Workers have voted against it in a ballot held today.

Community, Culture and Leisure Minister Graham Cregreen says good progress was being made and at one point it looked like the offer would be accepted on the advice of local union reps.

However, Mr Cregeen believes it was thwarted by interference from off-island union officials.

Drivers are due to strike for 12 days starting on Saturday.
