Hundreds of ICT jobs to be created

Mon, 12 Aug 2013

Up to 450 new jobs in ICT look set to be created over the next five years as demand in the sector grows.

The findings have come in a new study conducted by the Department of Economic Development and various private sector companies.

The 18-month review suggests this could be worth almost £100million extra to the Manx sector.

This has now re-focused attention on the proposed ICT university in Douglas, which is being spearheaded by the Manx Educational Foundation charitable trust.

Laurence Skelly headed the review but said the island currently doesn’t have skilled personnel to fill these positions.

However, the member for the DED has reaffirmed his support for the planned university and said government is fully behind the MEF’s plans.
