Minister accused of receiving Summerland petition quietly

A campaigner who wants to stop development on the Summerland site says the Infrastructure Minister wanted to accept her petition ‘behind closed doors’.

Tina Brennen handed over the document - which has gained 2,000 signatures - to David Cretney yesterday.

She's irritated that the media weren't informed of the meeting ahead of time.

50 people lost their lives in 1973 when a fire ripped through the leisure complex in Douglas.

Government is now looking to sell the site to a developer - despite calls for it to become a permanent memorial garden instead.

Tina says despite it being disappointing, Mr Cretney’s decision didn't surprise her:
