Minister says Summerland petition was accepted tactfully

The Infrastructure Minister says he felt it was more appropriate to discuss a petition focussing on the Summerland site privately - not in full view of the press.

David Cretney was handed the document concerning future development of the site by campaigner Tina Brennen yesterday.

She was irritated that more wasn't made of the meeting and says she believed Mr Cretney was 'ashamed' because the sale of the site would be inexcusable.

Almost 2,000 signatures have been collected in support of stopping future development after the tragedy in August 1973.

However, Mr Cretney says no one else was present at the meeting because the topic was of a sensitive nature:
