Island sends aid money to Philippines

£100,000 will be sent to the Philippines from the Isle of Man after a devastating typhoon claimed tens of thousands of lives.

Typhoon Haiyan struck the country on Friday – a massive emergency response has started with troops being deployed to the worst affected areas.

The International Development Committee says the money will supply medical care, humanitarian relief and supplies to assist ongoing aid efforts.

Currently over four million people are struggling to survive without food, shelter or clean drinking water.

Chairman Phil Gawne says the decision to send financial assistance was easy:
