Will DEC fine over taking kids out of school during term time?

Fri, 17 Jan 2014

The Department of Education and Children has confirmed it has no plans to start fining parents for taking children out of school during term time.

A case in the UK has made the headlines this week after a couple were fined £1000 for removing their children from school and taking a weeks holiday to Greece.

On Island parents are permitted to take their children out of school during term time for ten days, this was initially put in place decades ago for parents whose summers were spent serving the tourism trade.
