Minister says bad weather reserve fund needed

The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture is appealing for a reserve fund to be implemented in anticipation of bad weather.

Over the last year, the Island has been hit with a number of severe weather events, some of which - including last year’s unexpected snowfall - have had devastating effects.

The recent tidal flooding is estimated to have cost government at least £300,000 – money which needs to be collected from existing budgets.

The calls for the emergency funding come after the Chief Minister said no such fund will be implemented as government simply do not have the money.
