Tynwald supports future wind farm and gas exploration

Tynwald has shown support for the development of wind farm technology and gas exploration inside the Isle of Man's territorial sea.

The Council of Ministers put a report forward on the strategy of offshore energy production yesterday.

It included offshore wind, marine renewables, tidal power and conventional hydrocarbon energy - for the area which extends out by approximately 12 miles and is about 90 per cent of the Island’s territory.

Approval has been given to policy and now secondary legislation and planning is being put into place – which could be completed later this year.
