New law aims to stop unqualified social workers operating

A new law has been introduced to stop rogue social workers operating on Island.

The Department of Health and Social Care introduced the addition to the Regulation of Care Act before Tynwald this week.

From the 1st of May it will be compulsory for all social workers to be registered with a professional body in neighbouring jurisdictions.

It will then become an offence for persons who are not registered to use the term.

Minister Howard Quayle says although not a major issue on the Island cases have seen a steady increase in the UK:
