Island bans legal high AMT

Thu, 19 Jun 2014

Another legal high has been banned by Tynwald.

AMT is described as a psychedelic stimulant originally developed as an anti-depressant - as it stands it is not currently outlawed in the UK.

Last year a Ballasalla man died after taking the substance with the Coroner of Inquests recording death by toxicity.

The Department of Health and Social Care says in light of this it should be banned to reduce the potential for another death and to give a clear message to users that it is highly dangerous.

It will now be recognised as a Class C substance with a further review to be carried out in a year's time.
