Fire breaks out on bus

Passengers on a bus travelling from Ramsey had to be evacuated last night after a fire broke out.

Firefighters were called to the vehicle at 11.30pm - it had stopped near to the Rest and Be Thankful on the Laxey to Douglas Coast Road.

The fire had started in the engine compartment at the back of the bus but had begun spreading into the passenger area.

No one was injured during the incident which was brought under control within an hour.

The Department of Infrastructure was also called to the scene to ensure the road surface had not been damaged.
