DoI has 'no legal duty' to cut back roadside hedges

It costs over £170,000 a year to maintain the Island’s hedges, footpaths and green lanes.

However, the Department of Infrastructure says it has no legal duty to cut back the roadside hedges unless there are issues concerning road safety.

Minister Phil Gawne told us it’s difficult to know where to target resources as different people have different priorities.

He says government’s policy is currently being reviewed – he says it is time to look for a new approach including working with local authorities:
