Woman cyclist killed in Kirk Michael crash

Police have confirmed a woman was killed in a road traffic collision in Kirk Michael last night.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Main Road at around 6pm – the crash involved a dark blue Range Rover and the cyclist.

She suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene – her identity has not been released although police say she was local.

Both the car and the cyclist were travelling in the same direction towards Ballaugh when the collision happened.

The Range Rover was being driven by a woman who had a child in the car, although in shock neither required medical attention.

Police have thanked local residents who ‘rallied around’ to offer first aid and assistance to the emergency services.

The road was closed until almost midnight to allow investigations to take place. The Coroner of Inquests has been informed.
