Minister confirms no plans to close fire stations.

There are no plans to close any fire stations.

That's the assurance offered by Home Affairs Minister Juan Watterson, who is responding to speculation and rumour that his department could be about to close an Island station as a money saving measure.

Earlier this summer it was revealed how 26 posts were cut in the police and two stations closed.

Minister Watterson admits that whilst the Fire service has also had to endure significant cuts, station closures do not figure in their plans:
