Police probe malicious e-mail scam

Tue, 02 Sep 2014

Police are investigating a new money scam - this time revolving around nasty and malicious emails.

The e-mails have involved a number of threats of violence being made to the recipient, with demands for a significant amount of money to prevent the person being harmed.

Police are urging the public not to respond to or send money to the scammer and instead to ensure they have appropriate virus protection software to block these types of messages.

Officers say they're making steps forward to ascertaining who the original sender is - anyone who has received a similar e-mail is asked to contact Police Headquarters on 631212.
