An inquest has found a diver who died earlier this year during a visit to the Island suffered sudden heart failure.

62-year-old Eric Warburton was pronounced dead after a dive off Port St Mary on May 2nd.

With over 40-years of experience, the Manchester University chemist had made the trip to the Island with the Bury Sub Aqua Diving Club.

Yesterday, his inquest heard how he and his diving 'buddy' had completed a successful dive, with Mr Warburton becoming unresponsive upon return to their pick-up boat.

He was lifted back onto the vessel by his co-divers, who then proceeded to administer CPR to no avail.

Lifeboat crews and an ambulance met the group back at Port St Mary, and after a number of attempts to revive him in the ambulance, he was declared dead.

Coroner John Needham said it was possible Mr Warburton had an undetected heart issue as he hadn't been to see his GP for a number of years.
