Jewellery theft accused to stand next summer

Fri, 10 Oct 2014

A man accused of stealing from a Douglas jewellery shop will stand trial - but not until July next year.

38-year-old Michael Berquist, who is currently remanded in Jurby Prison, appeared at Douglas Courthouse for a pre-trial review yesterday.

A Newton Hearing will be held on March 25th next year in order to progress a charge of robbery.

This will then be followed by a four day trial in respect of a burglary charge - it's due to start on July 7th.

The charges relate to a robbery at the RHS Jewellers on Prospect Hill in Douglas on May 9th in which £25,000 of jewellery was taken.
