The IoM Archery Club assembled at Onchan once again to shoot a Portsmouth Round as part of the Club’s Handicap League. Thirteen archers took part and their fortunes varied wildly; from an uncharacteristic miss from Pete Mumford to a record breaking score from Josh Trafford. Four archers also set new personal best scores for the round.

Karen Lott, the only female recurve archer in evidence on Sunday, equalled her personal best score for the round and shot the highest scratch recurve score of the day. After the handicap was applied Karen finished just off the podium in fourth place.

In the Gent’s Recurve division Danny Cowin added 17 points to his pb to finish just four points behind Tony Hartley. After the handicap was applied however Tony dropped to seventh place while Danny finished second overall.

The Ladies Compound division saw a close run match between Joy Gough and Kirsten George. Joy posted a score that was just a handful of points off her pb but Kirsten just edged her out by four points but had to settle for tenth place after handicap.

Dave Moore showed a return to form in the Gent’s Compound division. He added 6 points to his pb for the round and posted the highest scratch score of the day. Pete Mumford recorded a miss which effectively cost him second place as Colin Moore found the target with all of his arrows to finish five points ahead of Pete.

Josh Trafford added 23 points to his pb for the round. Trafford then went on to shoot in the afternoon which resulted in his adding 67 points to his pb for the Double Portsmouth. His combined score of 1084 set a New Junior Gents Recurve Club Record, beating the previous record by 40 points.

The highest single improvement came from Toby Young, who added a terrific 93 points to his personal best for the round to take the win after handicapping.
