Promenade revamp works put on hold

Refurbishment works on Douglas promenade will be put on hold until next autumn.

The Department of Infrastructure imposed the halt on proceedings to allow them to explore additional options for improvements to the highway, footways and drainage.

The delay will enable the department to finalise designs, take proposals to Tynwald and apply for planning approval.

The relocation of the horse tram tracks has proved the major talking point, attracting extensive feedback from the public.

DoI Minister Phil Gawne says the major undertaking represents the Island's infrastructure for the next 50 years, so needs to be done right:
