Former St Ninian's pupil awarded Scholarship for US study

Wed, 31 Dec 2014

A former St Ninian's High School student has won the opportunity to study in the United States of America.

21-year-old Catherine Breed has won the 2015 Ella Olesen Scholarship and will spend nine months at the University of Idaho.

The scholarship is annually awarded to a female degree student from the Island and starts in August.

Ella Olesen was a former registrar of the university - she had Manx ancestry as her mother was born in Ballaugh before emigrating to America in 1890.

Catherine, who was one of five people interviewed for the placement, is currently studying for a degree in history at Cambridge University and will graduate next summer.
