Car tax charges would boost DoI revenue by £800,000

Fri, 09 Jan 2015

Changes to the car tax payment structure could be on the horizon for Manx drivers.

The Department of Infrastructure will ask Tynwald to validate a new charging regime this month.

The Vehicle Duty Order 2014 is set to split the lowest carbon emissions band into three - which will see charges for carbon emissions based on engine capacity.

It'll also see owners of older and larger engine vehicles paying prices that reflect the pollution they emit.

The department says the changes will boost its revenue on cars by 10 per cent and on motorcycles by four per cent - estimated to generate £800,000 for the DoI pot.
