Women's football round-up

Mon, 12 Jan 2015

Peel caused the biggest shock in the Warehouse Fitness Limited sponsored Flood-lit Cup semis after defeating holders and four times winners Corinthians 2-1. Kira Buchan struck twice for the westerners in the first half, Jade Burden pulled a goal back in the second half for the Whites but couldn’t muster an equaliser. The westerners have never won this competition and were beaten finalists in 2004.

In the other semis, five times winners Douglas Royal defeated Gymnasium 2-1 in extra-time. It was the Tromode side that took a first half lead via a Gillian Christiana header, Angela Waite equalised for the Ballafletcher outfit before half-time, it was Donna Shimmin who scored the all-important winner in extra-time.

A full round-up plus a Flood-lit Cup final preview will appear in this week’s Manx Independent.
