Motorists warned texting and driving could kill

Using a mobile phone whilst driving is as bad as taking to the roads under the influence of drink or drugs.

That's the hard hitting message from the Department of Infrastructure's Road Safety Team.

It's launched a new campaign this week against texting and e-mailing behind the wheel - the offence carries a fine of £2,500 and four penalty points.

John Houghton is the MHK with responsibility for Highway Services - he says people can't be safe drivers it they're not looking out of their front window:
