Sulby win the premier league
Monday evening was the final round of matches in the Isle of Man Winter League series and congratulations must go to Sulby Rifle Club as the 2014/15 winners of Division 1. Divisions 2 & 3 winners are the strong southern rifle club, Port St Mary. The Division 2 win was claimed on aggregate when ‘Port and Sulby both hit 30 points but Port St Mary’s aggregate was 32 points ahead of the northern club giving them an excellent win.
Monday’s results – IoMSC Douglas claim wins in all three Divisions
IoMSC Douglas travelled to the Glen Gardens in Laxey and left with wins in all three Divisions. Tracey Skelton and Martin Burns were both top shots for the visitors on 99 closely followed by Nick Brown on 98 and Mark Osborn and Andy Potter making up the Division 1 team on 96. Suzanne Curphey and John Wood led the way for Laxey on 98 with Stephen Curphey and Harry Creevy both on 97, Gary Kneale hit 96 to make up their five man team.

IoMSC Sandsiders finish with a strong win
IoMSC Sandsiders welcomed Castletown for their final match of the season and became another team to win in all three Divisions. Richard Arthur was the leader for the hosts on 99 with Steve Callus close behind on 98. Having celebrated his sixteenth birthday on Sunday Matthew Roosen, who appears to be thriving in the IoM Shooting Club Development Squad, which continued its coaching course on Saturday and Sunday, hit another terrific score of 97 with Bill Jones also on the same score. Castletown’s leading shot went to John Brewis on 98 with Robin McFee on 96. Castletown have had a disappointing season but they continue to field two teams week after week which gives heart to next season – keep up the good work folks.

Kirk Michael Lose out to Sulby by just 2 points
This week, Kirk Michael had three shooters missing from their ranks and the result could possibly have been a disaster for the visiting Sulby team had a full team been fielded. Two ladies, Perryn Callister and Suzanne McKnight led the home team with Callister on 99 and McKnight hitting 98. Both these ladies took part in the Development squad over the weekend so it appears to be having a significant effect on those involved. Les Crowe posted a 97 to help the Division 1 team’s score of 485. For the visitors, Julian Teare produced another excellent 99 with Junior, Fergus Coulter a point in arrears on 98 giving the visitors a Division 1 win by 2 points.

Congratulations must go to the two largest teams on the Island, Sulby and Port St Mary. For the rest of us, we look forward to a more competitive season during the 2015/16 season which will commence in October. The Individual Championship is, I believe, extremely close and has yet to be confirmed. I will hopefully, be able to cover this in next week’s column

Golden Jubilee Results
The Golden Jubilee, a competition for junior shooters, was shot at Port St Mary Rifle Club on March 18th and although just 5 juniors took part, the evening produced some close shooting where re-gauging was required. The results were:-
1 – George Dalton-Brown (PSM) 98, 96 = 194
2 – Alex Trafford (KM) 97, 95 = 192 (re-gauged to 97 and 95) = 192
3 – Callum Grant (PSM) 95, 97 = 192 (re-gauged to 94 and 96) = 190
4 – Jackie Gardner (PSM) 94, 95 = 189
5 – Luca Salinardi (PSM) 91, 93 = 184
Dates for your Diaries
The Isle of Man Rifle Association are holding their Annual Dinner and Prize Presentation on Saturday April 18th at 7.30 pm. Clubs have been advised regarding the menu and if last year’s dinner is anything to go by, it will be an excellent evening. It would be helpful if clubs could inform Lorrie Thompson as soon as possible with ticket numbers.
Town v Country
The Town v Country match is scheduled for March 30th, but I have not been informed about the location as yet nor has the date been confirmed. I understand it is the turn of the Country to provide the venue.
Easter Shooting Festival
The Island’s premier shooting competition, The Easter Shooting Festival, is being held over the Easter period and anyone who may be interested in spectating would be made welcome at Sinclair, St Johns.
