Major fine for employers breaking employment law

Employers are being warned they could be fined £5,000 if they break employment law over the school holidays.

The warning comes in the run up to the summer break when many children under the age of 16 look for temporary jobs.
 
Last year a study was carried out on the Island which showed 40 per cent of children aged 14 and 15 were holding down employment - this rises to 50 per cent for those aged 15 and 16. 
 
The 2001 Education Act limits the number of hours a young person can work and the jobs they can do - education liaison officer Maggie Czarnecka says the rules are clear:
