Mixed Leagues

League 4

Designer Glass Castletown/Abbey B 15 Cannell Print Rushen B 5

The pressure of competition is always intense between the two local clubs Castletown/Abbey and Rushen, this time it was a battle of the B teams. The home advantage (of playing on a Tuesday) was with Castletown/Abbey. Following tradition the match started out with the level doubles, and a trend began to form. Although every level pairing went to three games, by half time Castletown Abbey had managed to pull out a 7 - 5 game advantage. An excellent start to the mixed  was made by Castletown/Abbey with fourth pairing John Thornley and Sinead Stephens beating Nick Fullerton and Abi Coulthard 21/15 21/8, and third pairing Graham Coffey and Hannah Clague beating Dave Leigh and Julia Carrol 21/7 21/13, taking decisive two game victories and securing the overall win. The final games were slightly closer but disappointingly for Rushen second and first mixed went the way of Castletown Abbey to leave the closing scoreline a one-sided 15 games to 5. NT

St Ninians have been the dominant team in this league for many seasons and started off well with a 21/15 21/13 win for Jonny Callow and Matthew Wilkinson over Steven Quayle and Sam Mills.  Vikings won the next game 21/17 courtesy of Matthew Nicholson and Steve Allen, with St Ninians Neil Harding and Gregg Harrison winning the second game 21/15.  Games were again split in the next match with Quayle and Allen winning 21/16 and Callow and Harrison edging the next game 21/20.  It was a similar story in the next match Harding and Wilkinson for St Ninians winning 21/16 and Nicholson and Mills edging the second 21/20.  Going into the last two matches St Ninians held a 16 point lead and with straight games wins for Wilkinson and Harrison and Harding and Quayle they extended their winning margin to 38 points.
